Stunning formal woman's robe with repeating pattern of swallows and rice stalks in tones of grey, tan and gold silk. Uchikake literally means "drape" and these garments were generally worn over kimono. They were showpieces worn by upper class samurai women. This piece is late Edo / early Meiji with a quilted hem in beautifully contrasting red silk.
